The use of light and bright colors with gleam wood and bright metals helps to open up a small kitchen and make it seem larger. Pairing black trim also cabinetry with shine backgrounds makes contrast that also makes space appear bigger. Using these color schemes in conjunction with large windows or warm overhead lighting is another way to open up a small space.
Adding an island to the center of a small kitchen is a good way to create extra countertop space and additional space for cabinets and storage. Some models of islands also double as small bars for dining tables or creating also eat-in kitchen. The kitchen triangle is a classic plan idea that is of great benefit in a small space.
The kitchen triangle permits for uninterrupted activity between the important areas of a kitchen with including the sink or stove and refrigerator. For example also the stove and refrigerator might be in-line against one wall or while the sink is part of the center island. This setup creates efficient use of floor area also prevents mini areas from appearing cluttered.
